Wadi Dayqah Dam

Wadi Dayqah Dam is about an hour away from Muscat and can be planned as a day trip or as a small stop on the way to Sur. Opened in 2012, Wadi Dayqah Dam is a truly spectacular sight. The dam is embedded in a (limestone) wadi, surrounded by high mountains that glow orange to purple depending on the time of day. The dam forms an unusual contrast point in the middle of the naturally beautiful Omani landscape and, with a length of 8 kilometers and a capacity of 100 million cubic meters of rainwater, is by far the largest reservoir in the country. It was created to collect rainwater from the mountains and to feed it into the ancient irrigation system (falaj) in a controlled manner.

The Bimmah Sink Hole is located very close to the reservoir, and can be combined with a visit to the dam.
