The fishing town of Al Ashkarah is a 90 minutes’ drive south of Sur and about 320 kilometers away from Muscat. It is well suited for a stay if you are looking for a nice stop between Muscat and Salalah. The place is still strongly influenced by fishing today. The waters in this region of Oman are particularly rich in fish and known for large fish species. Al Ashkarah has numerous secluded stretches of beach and is home to a few Pink Lagoons. Also within easy reach is the town of Jalan Bani Bu Ali, which is home to one of the country’s oldest mosques and a fort. In Al Ashkarah you will find everything you need for a nice little stay. There is a large selection of supermarkets and restaurants with local cuisine. More and more hotels are settling here, as Al Ashkarah is often visited by people from Muscat, especially during the hot summer time.
If you don’t want to stay in a hotel and are looking for a more intimate spot, I can recomment the “Sunrise Villa” to you. This beautiful house has two floors, four bedrooms, a beautifully furnished, open living and dining area, a well-equipped kitchen, several bathrooms and a large outdoor area, which includes a pool and a grill station. The house is located directly on the beach and is ideal for a multi-day stay, even in larger groups.
